Karl Weigl's Five Songs for Soprano and String Quartet, with Soprano Jeannie Im, Caroga Lake, NY July 27
Five Songs for Soprano & String Quartet by Karl Weigl will be performed on Friday, July 27th at the Caroga Lake Music Festival in upstate New York. This concert takes place at the Caroga Chapel and features a mixture of classical and jazz music. These songs will be performed by Soprano Jeannie Im. It is a cycle of songs in German that has been widely performed around the world, including Carnegie Hall (Renee Fleming).

Soprano Jeannie Im has performed extensively in operas and concerts in the U.S. and throughout Europe. She was recently noted by Opera News for her gorgeous line and touching intensityas Fiordiligi. Her operatic roles performed include Queen of the Night, Fiordiligi, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Cleopatra, Zerlina, and Pamina. She has sung at the Teatro dellOpera di Roma, Altenburger Musikfestival, Elysium Festival Bernried, Bel Canto at Caramoor, California Music Festival, among other venues.
David Liptak's new trio Two Nocturnes, with the American Wild Ensemble, Aug. 22, 24
Looking forward to the west coast premiere of David Liptak's trio, Two Nocturnes, for flute, clarinet, and cello. Performance byThe American Wild Ensemble collective of musicians will take place at North Cascades National Park Service Complex at Newhalem Campground on August 22 and August 24, on a program of works inspired by landscapes! Music of Beth Wiemann and Barbara Jazwinski at University of Maine, Oct. 13th
Celebrated Baritone Jeremy Huw Williams will sing the premiere of two Rilke songs by Beth Wiemann, with songs of Barbara Jazwinski as well. Guest Artists pianist, Paula Fan, in concert with Baritone Jeremy Huw Williams at Minsky Recital Hall, University of Maine, October 13th.
John Gibson's In Flight to be released on Innova Recordings, Sept. 28
John Gibson's 35-minute work for chorus and electronics, In Flight, will appear on the shining debut album by NOTUS contemporary vocal ensemble, on the award winning Innova label, to be released September 28.Visit the album pagefor more information and a sample track. Celebrating Charles Wuorinen's birthday at Eastman - music by Louis Karchin and Eleanor Cory, Nov. 14
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, 7 PM, pianist Heather O'Donnell will perform a new work by Louis Karchin, commissioned by Perspectives of New Music for an 80th birthday celebration of the composer, Charles Wuorinen, entitledA Jersey Reverie on New York Notes.Part of a "Wuorinen Week" at Eastman, the concert will include 10 compositions written for the Perspectives volume for Spring 2019, including pieces by John Zorn, Tobias Picker, and Eleanor Cory, among other composers. Ben Weber's Lyric Piece for String Quartet, free concert, Lincoln Center, Sept. 20
Carnegie Halls Ensemble Connect, Opera on Tap and conductor Mila Henry will perform music by New York composers who flourished in a bygone, some say golden, era. Join Seth Boustead, composer and host of WFMT Chicagos Relevant Tones, for a live broadcast exploring the issues impact on music with author Jeremiah Moss, Open House New York executive Director Gregory Wessner, architect and author of A Country of Cities Vishaan Chakrabarti, and NewMusicBox co-editor Frank J. Oteri.
On the program: music by cellist, composer, and pop music phenom Arthur Russell; a New York City-premiere choral piece by Julius Eastman (The Moons Silent Modulation), a string quartet by Ben Weber, and a forgotten gem by Tui St. George Tucker.
Presented in collaboration with Access Contemporary Music. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scott L. Miller's RABA in multiple live shows, September 21- 29
Scott L. Miller's work RABA, featuring flutist Laura Cocks, and guitarist Daniel Lippel with the Estonian group Ensemble U, was released on New Focus Recordings in March of this year. Scott L. Miller's "Raba" reflects his increasing interest over the last two decades in ambient music inspired by sounds of the environment. Miller is a pioneer in the field of eco-systemic music and in applications of the performance platform Kyma, as well as beingactive in many contexts of multi-media work -- accompanying the New Focus release is a limited edition DVD of original video content created for the project.
Louis Karchin's Two Songs on Poems of Seamus Heaney, two performances with Marisa Karchin, Sept. 30, Oct. 9
On Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at 3 PM, Two Songs on Poems of Seamus Heaney by Louis Karchin will be performed at Lehigh University's beautiful Zoellner Center for the Arts, Bethlehem, PA, on a program with additional works by Paul Salerni, Hugo Wolf, Giacomo Puccini, and Pierangelo Valtinoni. Marisa Karchin is the soprano soloist in the Heaney Songsand the Valtinoni work, with Blair McMillen, piano. Other performers include mezzo-soprano Jessica Bowers and the Dali String Quartet.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, 8 PM, Marisa Karchin will perform her Weill Hall Recital Debut as the winner of this year's Joy-in-Singing International Competition. She will perform Two Songs on Poems of Seamus Heaney composed by her father, composer Louis Karchin, with her longtime accompanist,Haodong Wu, in a solo recital that includes additional works by Purcell, Lili Boulanger, Turina, Obukhov, and Richard Strauss. Overture to Treemonisha (Scott Joplin opera, orchestrated by T. J. Anderson), at University of Connecticut, Dec. 6
The University of Connecticut Orchestra, with Dr. Paul McShee, director, will perform Scott Joplin's Treemonisha Overture, as orchestrated by T. J. Anderson, on December 6th at von der Mehden Recital Hall, University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. This concert also features the winners of the 2018 UConn Concerto Compeitition and Mississippi River Suite by Florence Price. The University of Connecticut Symphony Orchestra is made up of approximately 75 student musiciansundergraduate and graduate.
Tango Dreams, music of Ray Luedeke in Scotland, May 30
Ray Luedekes Tango Dreams, for accordion and string trio will be performed on May 30 at the Royal Conservatory of Scotland in Glasgow. Accordionist Sarah Alexander will be joined by a Glaswigean string trio. Ray will not be able to hear their actual performance, but will hear a rehearsal on May 23, when he is in Scotland, as part of a month long visit to Great Britain.
Earlier this year, Tango Dreams was performed in Portugal and broadcast on Portuguese radio. Tango Dreams has previously been performed in Canada and in Finland. Last year it was performed at Symphony Space, in a concert featuring world champion accordionist Alex Sevastian. (Sadly, Alex passed away just 2 months ago).

Lansing McLoskey - Mhlfeldtnze for clarinet quintet, world premiere by Hoff-Barthelson school, May 20
Mhlfeldtnze (akaMhlfeld Dances) for clarinet quintet, a new work by Lansing McLoskey, commissioned by the Aaron Copland House and the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY, will be premiered at the Hoff-Barthelson Festival of Contemporary Music, May 20th, at Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation 468 Rosedale Ave., White Plains.
Richard Cameron-Wolfe CD Release: An Inventory of Damaged Goods, June 1
Cameron-Wolfes new CD contains nine compositions, spanning the years 1970-2016: three of his micro-operas as well as works for flute, violin, and solo piano produced and published byFurious Artisans Recordings(Bronxville, NY).
OnMay 31in Taos, NM, Cameron-Wolfe will present a lecture and de facto CD release party atSOMOS(Society of the Muse of the Southwest), 108 Civic Plaza Drive;7:00 PM(free). Concert/CD release party for Roven Records Folk Tune Project, with music of Robert Carl, Frank J. Oteri, Gilda Lyons, and more, May 29
Upcoming performance Tuesday (5/29). My Fragile Farewell for piano trio by Robert Carl will be included in a concert featuring all the works in the Phoenix Concerts Folk Song Project -- works written for piano trio in response to a series of classic songs (Carl's is The Parting Glass). Other new works by Juhi Bansal, Daron Hagen, Katarina Leyman, Gilda Lyons, Jorge Martin, Frank J. Oteri, Glen Roven, & Dan Sonenberg will also be performed by entelechron: Roger Zahab, violin; David Russell, cello, & Robert Frankenberry, piano.
The works are paired with the tunes that inspired them, performed by Gilda Lyons & Elaine Valby. Join us in celebrating the musicians of The Folk Tune Project with Pittsburghs Entelechron. This is a CD release party/concert for the recording produced by Roven Records.

New solo string works by David Froom featured at Klein Competition San Francisco, June 2
Congratulations to California Music Center, which received a New Music USA project grant towards the commissioning of David Froom's Eine Kleine Kleinmusik, for the 33rd Annual Irving M. Klein International String Competition. The events will take place June 2 and June 3 in San Francisco. On June 2, all the semifinalists will perform from Violinetude orVioloncelletude from Ene Kleine Kleinmusuick. On June 3, the finalist may, if they choose, play it again. The work has also been arranged for viola or double bass and will be available for sale on composers.com in mid-June. Richard Cameron-Wolfe at Cxid Operas new Chamber Stage, June 18
The inaugural event in the new experimental venue of the Kharkov [Ukraine] opera house features works by Richard Cameron-Wolfe, highlighted by productions of two of his micro-operas: Through a Glass Darkly and A Sound-Shroud for Bill Knott. The program will also include his flute/piano Kyrie(Mantra)IV and the 7-part cantata Breathless, in a new scoring for mezzo soprano, baritone, cello, and guitar quartet. Additionally, Cameron-Wolfe will perform piano works by Dane Rudhyar and Leo Ornstein.
Performers: Armen Kaloyan (actor, Principal Director of Cxid opera), Anna Bychkova (mezzo-soprano), Mykola Kushnirenko (baritone), Ksenia Konoval (flute), Sergii Gorkusha (conductor, guitarist), the Kharkov GuitarQuartet, Irina Avdeyeva (dancer), a 5-voice madrigal group, and several other fine Kharkov musicians.

Labyrinths Vectors of Modernity: Richard Cameron-Wolfe in Kiev - June 27
In collaboration with members of Duo Sonoro and Ensemble Sed Contra, Richard Cameron-Wolfe will offer four of his compositions Kyrie(Mantra)II, Variations and Liebestod, Lilith, and Labyrinths [premiere of a new transcription for clarinet/cello/piano] featuring performers Sergey Vilka (flute), Dmitriy Pashinskiy (clarinet), Andrii Pavlov (violin), Zhanna Marchinska (cello), and Valeriia Shulga (piano/prepared piano).
The program will also include Lutoslawskis 1992 Subito, Jolivets 1961 Sonatine, and Cameron-Wolfes own piano performances of music by Dane Rudhyar and Leo Ornstein (in collaboration with dancer-choreographer Alina Tskhovrebova). The event takes place at 7:30PM on June 27, at Dom Master Klass, Khmelnytskogo St. 57, Kiev, Ukraine. Admission: 150 Hryvnia general, 100 Hryvnia students/seniors.

The third Uncommon Music Festival runs from July 28 to August 5, 2018. This year the schedule includes "The Edge of a Season" as the concert title piece composed by Jonathan Woody on a poem by Carolyn Servid. This year the event will be at Sheet'ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Community House, 200 Katlian Street, Sitka, Alaska. Every summer, The Uncommon Music Festival brings together young artists and curious audiences in beautiful Sitka, Alaska. The Festival presents the Uncommon Music Ensemble, a 6-person chamber group comprised of a vocal quartet, a piano/organist, and a guitar/lute player in a series of concerts and community engagement events.They are dedicated to uncommon chamber repertoire -- new music, early music, and underperformed music of any age.
