Music of Robert Scott Thompson to be Performed in New Zealand
Australasian Computer Music Conference will welcome Robert Scott Thompson and his workNullius in Verbato their program on August 31st.Nullius in Verbatranslates from the Latin as on the word of no one. This acousmatic composition incorporates field and studio recordings and their transformation and elaboration. Sound sources include vocal, percussion, flute and cello sources together with mechanical and environmental sounds. The music is conceived as a kind of song without words inspired by Mendelssohn's philosophy on the genre: What the music I love expresses to me, is not thought too indefinite to be put into words, but on the contrary, too definite. Techniques used for the work include ambisonic spatialization and spectral transformation methods. Tools used include Kyma, Csound, Metasynth, Cecelia, Trajectory and Spat Revolution.
Nullius in Verbawas featured on ACA's album of electroacoustic music,Currents, and will make its Oceanic debut in Wellington, New Zealand.
Michael Udow's Ancient Echoes, with Longmont Symphony, April 23rd

Featuring a World Premiere performance of "Ancient Echoes" a newly commissioned work for percussion and orchestra by renowned composer and Longmont resident Michael Udow. ThisWorld Premiereconcerto by Udow will be performed by guest percussionist Anthony Di Sanza, playing on a set of 6,000 year old lithophones discovered by Longmont archaeologist Marilyn Martorano. These Stone Age instruments will be played alongside a modern lithophone and percussion instruments from around the world, with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra.
In addition, theDuPage Symphony Orchestra(photo above) presented Michael Udows The Shattered Mirror Suite, a captivating musical reflection on global mythology, at the "Reflections Concert" on March 19, 2022 atWentz Concert Hall in Chicago.

Beth Wiemann's opera in development, "I Give You My Home" prepared by Guerilla Opera Company for upcoming premiere
GuerillaOpera was in residence at the UMaine campus in March 2022, to prepare the Boston premiere of Beth Wiemanns new workI Give You My Homein June. The residency is a collaboration betweenGuerillaOpera, UMaines School of Performing Arts and Womens, Gender and Sexuality Studies units, and the Nichols House Museum of Boston. Theoperais based on the life of suffragette and peace activist Rose Standish Nichols.
This residency included a presentation by Artistic Director Aliana De La Guardia on contemporary opera (March 4), a vocal masterclass, and a public performance of Wiemanns new work on March 5th.
The world premiere of I Give You My Home with music and libretto by Beth Wiemann, is planned for later in 2022. The work is scored for Soprano, saxophone, percussion, and electronics, and is being developed for film as well as live performance.
IGive You My Home is supported by an Opera Grants for Women Stage Directors and Conductors award from OPERA America, a Live Arts Boston grant award from The Boston Foundation and Partners, a CIP Projects grant award from Mass Cultural Council, the University of Maine, Orono, and in partnership with the Nichols House Museum.
Robert Carl's White Heron featured with the Fairfax Symphony, April 23rd
Robert Carl's symphonic work, White Heronwill be performed by the Fairfax Symphony Concert Series,Christopher Zimmerman, conductor, on April 23, 2022, at the Center for the Arts at George Mason University, in Fairfax, VA.
For compositional inspiration, Composer Robert Carl draws frequently on memories of landscapes that have impressed him. This concert opens with the Regional Premiere of his recent work, White Heron, inspired by a visit to the Florida Keys. He says of his music, If there is exhilaration or a gentle transcendence, then I've done my job." White Heronis an attractive feat of musical imagism. Gramophone

Treemonisha selections to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opera premiere, Columbia Civic Orchestra and Choral Union, April 28
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Scott Joplin's opera Treemonisha (T.J. Anderson's orchestration), which was performed in 1972 by the Atlanta Symphony together with Robert Shaw and singers from several ensembles, the Columbia Civic Orchestra and Choral Union will perform selections from this American opera at Jesse Auditorium (University of Missouri), on April 28th, 2022 - location: 801 Conley Ave - Columbia, MO 65211 Box Office: (573) 882-3781.
Choral Union, University Singers, and the Columbia Civic Orchestra are working together to present a variety of choral/orchestral favorites, from the opera choruses of Beethoven and Verdi to TREEMONISHA by Scott Joplin (Scenes 9 (Good Advice); 16 (We Will Rest A While); 18 (Aunt Dinah has blow'd de horn) and the Finale (A Real Slow Drag), and the rarely heard CHARIOT JUBILEE by R. Nathaniel Dett.
Elizabeth Austin's Rose Sonata featured in lecture recital by Christian Johnson, April 14
Elizabeth Austin's Rose Sonatafor piano and reciter will be performed by Christian Johnson with Dr. Pamela Starr reciting the poemsonApril 14 at 7:30pm at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.The work explores the use of geometric forms found in the natural world as the basis for an overall musical form. It is an ongoing exploration of the idea of motivic fragments emerging into a theme, often taken from other composers works, through an epiphany. The poetry recited is by Rainer Maria Rilke.
Knoxville Symphony celebrates MLK Day with Joplin's Treemonisha Overture, Jan. 16
Night with the Arts: A Celebration Concert in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at theTennessee Theatre, Knoxville, presented the music ofFlorence Price, Scott Joplin, Valerie Coleman, and William Grant Still. Joplin's Overture to Treemonisha (T.J. Anderson, orchestration) was performed in a free concert by members of the Knoxville Symphony.

This contemplative solo piano work was written as a "commentary" on the composer's 2006 chamber cantataA Measure of Love and Silence.It reflects the spiritual-philosophical essence of the larger work's musical and poetic themes - but nevertheless has a life of its own.
KeyedUp Series features music of Alison Nowak, Charles Ives, May 7

On Saturday, May 7, at 7 PM, cellist Robert LaRue will perform Cyclorama for solo cello by Alison Nowak on Marc Peloquin's KeyedUpseries concert at Tenri Cultural Institute.Also, on the program are works of Peter Lieberson, Charles Ives, and J.S. Bach. Cyclorama was written for and premiered by Michael Finckel in 1974. Mr. LaRue has recorded it for a soon-to-be-released album of four early works of Alison Nowak.

Andrew Ardizzoia - Ubi Caritas with the Muhlenberg College Wind Ensemble, April 23
Muhlenberg College Wind Ensemble Concert on Saturday, April 23 will feature Ubi Caritas for brass ensemble, by music director Andrew Ardizzoia.
Location: Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College, Allentown PA
TheUbiCaritasfor brass ensemble is drawn from a cappella choral works composed in the fall of 2019. The main musical materials are comprised primarily of a section cut from a piece commissioned by Iowa State University, and which uses the incipit of the ISU alma mater as a source for imitative counterpoint. Portions of the Catholic text which have a universalmessage resonate through the work.
Also, on April 27, 2022: Miles Salerni and the Muhlenberg Percussion Ensemble will perform a new work by Andrew Ardizzoia at 7:30 p.m., Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College. And, on May 12, Joshua Myers performs Alone from the Songs of Introspection, 7:00 p.m., Recital Hall, Baker Center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College.
Aaron Larget-Caplan performs music by Tom Flaherty, T.L. Read, and more, Spring 2022
Aaron Larget-Caplan performed the world premiere of Tom Flaherty's 'Steps and Leaps' (2019) and Thomas L. Read's newest lullaby 'Tales From a Virtual World' (2021) on Monday Feb. 14 at Framingham State University. Other works on the program include music by Laurie Spiegel, John Cage, and Lainie Fefferman.
Larget-Caplan's West Coast tour in April, 2022 also included Steps and Leaps, with 25 musical events in 13 days for this busy Boston-based guitarist.

Copland Fund Grant Awarded to ACA for 2022-23
We are simply grateful at ACA for the longtime support received from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music. ACA was awarded a grant this year towards its score digitization project. Performing artists will benefit in having access to modern editions of music from the ACA archives, including music by Dorothy Rudd Moore, T.J. Anderson, H. Leslie Adams, Ann Silsbee, Otto Luening, Robert Ceely, Lee Gannon, Lionel Nowak, and more. New editions such as Introduction and Allegro for Orchestra (1959) by T.J. Anderson; Derelict for solo flute (1989) by Lee Gannon; andA Little Whimsy (1978) by Dorothy Rudd Moore, are enjoying new performances as a result of this multi-year project at ACA. Editors and performers familiar with these works are helping ACA bring these works to life in new editions as we bring them to a wider worldwide audience.

A star in the making (Seattle Pi), Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak is an outstanding artist of passion, energy, and authenticity. The recipient of prizes at the Sphinx, Concert Artists Guild, and the Tertis International Viola competitions, Bak is a featured artist for WQXRs inaugural Artist Propulsion Lab. He makes his Baltimore Debut with a program featuring works from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, led by Brahms enchanting and rarely heard Opus 91.
