Description

Composer's Note:

"Borrowed Blue" is a set of four haiku written for Aaron Larget-Caplan, guitar and Michael Hall, viola. I wrote the words to "Pressed Flower" and "First Day" a few years ago - "Gloves" and "Balloon" are more recent poems. I put these poems together to form a set - one that reflects the old wedding tradition of something "old, new, borrowed and blue." The first piece, "Pressed Flower" represents something old, a cherished memory. Next, the "First Day" of school  (played on the viola with a sharpened pencil) is all crispness and new. The "Gloves" in the third song are borrowed, never returned. The set ends with "Balloon;" floating upward into the blue, the two players drift into nothingness with rising glissandi.
