March 6- a new film about Lou Harrison premieres at San Francisco's historic movie palace, the Castro Theater at 7pm. Twenty years in the making, the film screening will also feature a performance by Terry Riley on the theater's Wurlitzer organ, and David Tanenbaum will be playing Lou's guitar music before the film starts.
A World of Music, directed and produced by Eva Soltes is an in-depth, lyrical and long-awaited biography of the legendary composer Lou Harrison (1917-2003). This event is a prelude to the 2012 Mavericks Festival (March 8-19) presented by the San Francisco Symphony. All proceeds will support Harrison House Music & Arts, an artist residency and performance program founded by Soltes at Lou Harrison's straw bale retreat in Joshua Tree, CA. Harrison House Music & Arts keeps Harrison's legacy alive by supporting the work of gifted artists.
