Great Plains Marimba Contest features music by Andy Thomas, July 29
Second Room Duo (Ava Machado and Ruyi Yuan) will perform THREE TRANSFORMATIONS by ANDREW WILLIAM THOMAS on June 29th at the Great Plains International Marimba Contest. This year's events will be hosted at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.
Louis Karchin opera "JANE EYRE" to be released on Naxos, August 8
The double CD album of Jane Eyre, a new opera in three acts by Louis Karchin, will be released on Naxos, on August 8. Based on Charlotte Brontes Jane Eyre, with a libretto by Diane Osen, the recording features the original cast from the 2016 Center for Contemporary Opera production, including Metropolitan Opera soprano Jennifer Zetlan, and NYC Opera baritone, Ryan MacPherson. The disc features a cast of 9 principal singers, chorus, and an orchestra of 36 musicians. Other participating soloists include Thomas Meglioranza, Katrina Thurman, Kimberly Giordano, Adam Cannedy, Jessica Best, David Salsbery Fry, and Jessica Thompson.
This is Karchin's second opera, and has been awarded two showcase berths, on Ft. Worth Operas inaugural Frontiers Series in May of 2012, and later that year with the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York. CCO presented the works world premiere in October, 2016.
Margaret Mills solo recital - works by Schumann, Debussy, Schober, Wilson, April 28
Pianist Margaret Mills will play a solo concert at Maison Avenue Presbyterian Church (Madison at 73rd Street) in New York City. Works by Clara and Robert Schumann, Richard Wilson, and Brian Schober are scheduled for this program.
Life's Work: Songs of American Composers, on love and life; April 22
Join us for a concert featuring the Cheah-Chan Duo (Phillip Cheah, Trudy Chan), Mezzo-Soprano Re'ut Ben Ze'ev, pianist Margaret Kampmeier, and Baritone Jos Pietri-Coimbre, as they bring to life rarely performed works by composers Vally Weigl, and Dorothy Rudd Moore, and favorites by H. Leslie Adams, Frank J. Oteri, Chet Biscardi, and others. This is a free concert at National Opera Center 330 Seventh Ave. (28-29), in New York City, on Monday, April 22.
Mezzo-Soprano Reut Ben Zeev has been working to bring Vally Weigls music back to New York City. Weigl was an important ACA member for decades, and her music is often performed in Europe. She was the wife of composer Karl Weigl, but an accomplished and gifted composer in her own right. Working with Peggy Kampmeier, pianist with the New York Philharmonic, Reut will give premiere performances of some of Vallys beautiful art songs and piano music from the 1970s.
The Cheah-Chan Duo, celebrating their 10th incredible year of collaboration, will perform several songs as part of Lifes Work, a musical meditation on the themes of love and life.
Two works by New York City composer Dorothy Rudd-Moore, "Weary Blues" and "Fourth of July Speech" from the opera Frederick Douglass will be performed by Baritone Jos Pietri-Coimbre, with pianist Richard Liebowitz and cellist Halie Morris.

Following various concerts in the U.S., Mirror Visions Ensemble will present their very special concert program "This Land is Ours" for audiences in Paris, featuring commissioned works by H. Leslie Adams, Harold Meltzer, Mohammed Fairouz, Brittney Boykin, CarlosSimon, Adolphus Hailstork, and others. Location: The Muse des Arts Dcoratifs in Paris, with tenor Scott Murphree, baritone Mischa Bouvier, and pianist Grant Wenaus.
Album Release by Three Free Radicals, music of Scott L. Miller, may 17
Atlas of the Heavens - the latest album byThree Free Radicals, an electroacoustic free improv ensemble, to be released on the Tallinn-based Improtest labelon May 17. Album release concerts are planned for Tartu (May 7) and Tallinn (May 11). The album and concerts feature the core duo of Mart Soo (guitar) and Scott Miller (Kyma) joined by harpist Liis Viira.
