A set of 8 variations with coda for cello and piano. There is much contrapuntal interplay between the instruments, and the variations are as much about the opening harmonic textures and timbres as they are about motific-melodic development. The variations contrast sharply from each other, and there are technical challenges throughout, although most performers have found the piece to be of moderate difficulty. It has been performed by both student and professional duos.
