str orch or ensemble (2-2-2-2-2)

A piece for string orchestra or 10 string players (2-2-2-2-2) this is a sound-mass piece, consisting of blocks of shifting timbres created through specific string techniques to produce sounds which are both very active, but still retain a degree of transparency. Several types of attack, pizzicato, and vibrato are employed, as well as other extended string techniques. Originally written for a young string orchestra, the piece was a challenge, but was able to be performed. Medium difficulty, should present few problems for more advanced groups.

Written with the support of an MTNA Composer Grant.
