Awakening: Ten Etudes

Awakening: Ten Etudes

Solo Flute (or Native American Flute)

Note from the Composer:

As a Native American composer, I want to create a new art form. I want to bring the world of classical music before the creative spirit of the Native American. I want to see a new genre of classical contemporary music, created by us, expressing our unique ethos and style. I’m using European art tools, modes considered unique in the development of my own tonal and harmonic organization, to say something Native American. I present my new forms of harmonic organization, my new colors and my new styles of expression; regions of intervallic relationships which otherwise would have lain unused.

These movements (as “discoveries”) may reveal a common purpose. I am calling for an AWAKENING to crosscurrents as we attempt to become more understanding and conscious of each other’s influence. I have combined my instrument of tradition and my classical image with Pellerite’s concept of playing contemporary music.

Movements: 1. Light Walk 2. Lost Dawn 3. Leaves Floating (on a slow stream) 4. Far Call 5. Rock Echoes 6. Young Eagle Flies 7. Little Stones 8. Spirits Dance 9. Talking Clouds 10. Ishatai
