Composer's Note:

This work conjures up the mysterious world of Minnesota's ice fisherman where birds call out to each other across the silent frozen lake.  It is said that in the winter the veil between the world of the living and the spirit world is at its thinnest. In the first movement ghosts gradually gather exploding, in the second movement, into a wild dance.
