STAND FACING THE STOVE

Stand facing the stove uses electronic sound and video to accompany the bass clarinet soloist. Directions to the soloist about synchronization, such as rhythmic cues from the electronic accompaniment and general timing markings, are given in the performer’s score. The sounds of the electronic accompaniment were made using SoundHack and Reason software. The work uses processed video of both public domain cooking instruction footage and home movies of dinner preparations. The title, a beginning cooking instruction itself, was also used as the title of the biography of the Rombauer cookbook authors by Anne Mendelson.
