String Quartet
Dolores R. White's only string quartet could be said to hold the secrets of her mature style. The work was first written around the turn of the millennium as Three Movements for Two Violins, Viola, and Violoncello, and recorded in 2004 by the Cleveland Composers Guild on the album "Telling Tales." However, twenty years later, White would revisit the work to write a final, fourth movement three years before her death in 2023. This movement, with the marking "Resolute, con spirito," changes the quartet's final moments from glistening sounds, marked by pizzicato, to a fortississimo melodic statement.
