Piano Sonata No. 2 - The Magical Relics of Borges
Piano
Composer's Note:
The Magical Relics of Borges is another skeletal backbone and musical engine derived from my first opera, Borges and the Other, based on the life and stories of Argentine master of fiction and magical realism, Jorge Luis Borges. Where Piano Sonata No. 1 (The Labyrinths of Borges) is biting and angular and played without pedal, this second sonata (The Magical Relics of Borges) coming from the more fluid, rippling and murky portions of the opera, is played mostly with pedal. In ways it represents the older and softer Borges, blind, wise and tactile, who is in conversation with the younger, visionary Borges. Sonic waves undulate through four movements of post-minimal meditative pattern-music.
