Composer's Note:

Balance is an expansive duo with echoes of Bartok. The piece was premiered at Boston University by violinist Janet Packer and cellist Chase Morrison on the composer's doctoral recital and has also been performed in Santa Fe on the series entitled Something Completely Different and by the Aeolian Chamber Players at Bowdoin College. There are three movements: Fast, Very slow, and Very fast. The second movement is a theme with seven variations.
