Composer's Note:
"Unfolding" was composed for violist Jordan Bak to perform with his studio at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. It is conceived as a work for viola soloist with three "sections" of violists.
In keeping with the spirit of teacher-student relationship imagined for the performance, soloist and ensemble lead one another -- learn from one another -- over the course of the work, just as the most fortunate teachers have the privilege of learning as much from their students as vice versa.
Publisher's Note: Due to the extensive divisi in the 3 viola sections, 10 separate parts (including the soloist part) are provided.
