Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano
Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano
Violin, Cello, and Piano
Composer's Note:
The Piano Trio was composed in 1993 and first performed at Bennington College by pianist Elizabeth Wright, violinist Joanna Jenner and cellist Maxine Neuman. They subsequently performed the piece at the Greenwhich House Music School in New York and rdecorded it for Northeastern Records. The Trio is a passionate, eventful and closely argued work in three movements. The first movement moves from slow lyricism to a bristling, rhythmic middle section, and back again. The middle brief movement passes like a plaintive and dreamlike cloud, with the strings muted. The finale is impetuous, with dance-like dynamism, ending in an impassioned final outburst.
