Editor's Note:

Lee Gannon set American poet Robert Frost's 1915 / 1916 work The Road Not Taken early in his compositional career, at the age of 23. Though the compositional language in this work is closer to Western European tonality than in later works, especially in use of the major seventh, it shows the seeds of Gannon's later explorations into entirely quintal-based harmony.
