This piece is about subtleties in the listening experience, both real and imagined. As the listener strives to make sense of the situation, he or she will naturally rely on a learned vocabulary of sound, gesture, and form created by the normalization of past listening experiences. Whether or not the work actually supports such orthodox notions of musical meaning is a matter for the listener to discover amidst the drama; the whole thing might just turn out to be a red herring. konzertstück was written in 2009 for Red Light New Music.
