Roger Stubblefield

Divertissement for Violoncello and Orchestra, Op. 8a

Divertissement for Violoncello and Orchestra, Op. 8a

Violoncello and Orchestra 2222 - 4000 - vib - violoncello solo - strings

Composer's Note:

Opus 8, Divertissement, was commissioned and dedicated to cellist Dr. Louise Dubin for her debut recital at Lincoln Center. The piece is a single movement work, based on a motif inspired by Dr. Dubin's virtuosity. The majestic theme remains steadfast and never changes throughout the entire work. The accompaniment in the piano shifts and changes color and character in ways that make it appear as though we're listening to new material. This is an orchestration of the Divertissement for Violoncello and Piano.. Throughout, we hear the original theme performed in many different styles.
