I took the occasion of the premiere (Prague 1999) to remember events that were so important to the liberation of the Czech people"”Prague Spring 1968, the immolation of student protesters in Wenceslas Square 1969, and the Velvet Revolution 1989. It also pays respect to the great work of Karel Husa, Music for Prague 1968, which quotes the same melody. la chanson du printemps . . . was premiered by Vladimir Valek and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and is recorded on A Portrait of American Women Composers, Vol. II MMC recordings (2001) MMC 2101.
