William Lovelock

Scherzo-Waltz

Scherzo-Waltz

piccolo, piano

The Scherzo-Waltz is a later work by William Lovelock, composed during the composer’s 25-year stay in Brisbane, Australia. It is fairly traditional in harmonic language and structure, with much of the musical tension coming from the chromaticism in the piccolo part. At a brisk Vivo, it is very much a flashy encore-type piece meant to impress-a modern descendant of the late Romantic works of Eugène Damaré, Johannès Donjon, and others.
