Sandsteps I-b begins with a slow lyrical contrapuntal melody, which melds into a second section completely improvised with free instrumentation; the third section includes auxiliary instruments (as determined by the performers), and is a folk music-like, mixed metered melody which begins slowly, ends fast and allows for improvisation.
