From the New York Times (Nov. 2, 1995) Nicholas Roussakis helped start the American Composers Orchestra 20 years ago, and when he died last year (1994) he was at work on a piece for the ensemble. Called "To Demeter," it was to be a three-movement evocation of the Greek goddess of agriculture, whose daughter Persephone was abducted to the underworld. Mr. Roussakis completed only two movements, and on Sunday afternoon [November, 1995] Paul Lustig Dunkel conducted them as part of the American Composers Orchestra's first concert of the season.
