Composer's Note:

The pieces in this collection are reflective of many musical cultures: the middle east, Russia, Europe and the Americas, as well as of folk and popular, neoclassic, atonal and third-stream styles. For instance the Overture (Scene de Ballet) includes two polkas -one a "Polka Paraguaya," a British dance-hall tune, a galop and a dramatic, nocturnal ending. The Passacaglia, #11, is both atonal and third-stream (jazz). The individual pieces may be performed in any order but are numbered to provide a satisfying sequence of varied moods, accessibility and complexity.

Movements: 1. Overture (Scene de Ballet), 2. Processional, 3. Serenade, 4. Metropolitan March, 5. Gigolette, 6. Two Dances (Fire Dance, Country Dance), 7. Two Portraits, 8. Ballroom Polka, 9. Ballade, 10. Runaway Waltz, 11. Passacaglia (Nocturnal), 12. Lament, 13. Vaudeville: Encore and Finale
