Quintet for Winds and Piano
Quintet for Winds and Piano
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano
Composer's Note:
This piece was written for my doctoral recital as my ensemble piece. It was meant to be only about 8-10 minutes long, but quickly grew to much more.
The first movement, Fragments, literally grew from a series of pieces that were thrown out from other pieces (I can no longer remember which pieces).
The second movement was originally meant to be a separate work, but I found it worked well with the rest of this. It's really a trio, and is dedicated to my cousin, Thomas Stocks, who sadly died in a car accident in 1990.
The third movement gets it's basic idea from Smetana's The Moldau, where the streams at the beginning go on to form the river. In this case, I decided to look on it as "what if the streams never met to form the river, and just made more streams?"
