Composer's Note:

Quartet was written in 1982 for the performers who gave the premiere at Wigmore Hall, London. The 2026 edition provides corrections and other useful edits. A dramatic work, the three movements present images of sleep and wakefulness during the night's passage.

The 2025 edition is made with grateful thanks to David Harman, whose generosity and support of this effort has been central to its creation.
