In memory of Maxine Neuman

Sonata No. 8 was composed in memory of my friend and colleague, cellist, Maxine Neuman. Its idiom is austere and rigorous, with many passages presented both forwards and backwards. Although it is an understated and serious piece, it still contains hints of Maxine’s wonderful sense of humor. In the coda of the second movement the “interrupted Chorale” from the first movement returns uninterrupted.
