In memory of Bálint András Varga.

Sonata No. 7 was a response to the death of a friend whom I never met in person, but with whom I had an extensive, regular, and meaningful email correspondence: the Hungarian writer on contemporary music, Bálint András Varga. Its three disparate movements are linked by a tone-row that appears in the last movement as an extended ornamented cantilena. A colleague remarked to me that the segmented musical fragments of the middle movement could represent the emails Balint and I exchanged.
