Composer's note:

"Solstice Morning" expresses the summer solstice as it rises to a central high point and returns by reversing itself in dramatic release. This solstice reference finds its home in the C section of the ABACB form through a developing four-part harmonic counterpoint in a steady surging rhythm and crescendo. The A section with its ascending arpeggios introduces the thematic material. The B section offers a more spacious contrasting theme punctuated with rising octaves, an inner ostinato, and it returns in the finale with a broad and majestic sunrise.
