Composer's Note:

I am a huge pencil nerd. Sharpening a quality wood pencil, the smell of cedar and graphite, marking the page with a fine instrument like a Blackwing, are some of the best parts of my craft.

Here are three little love letters to pencils I’m particularly fond of. I’ve tried to express in music what it feels like to write with them: the romantic sensuousness of the Blackwing, the cool, scientific precision of the Staedler, and the Mitsubishi’s consistent reliability.
