Composed in 1990-1991, and winner in the Consorso Internazionale di Composizione Porrini, Italy, 1994. It is the only work by an American composer to win this award. Toccata has been widely performed by Francisco Monteiro who premiered it at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Portugal, and by Francesco Libetti, in Calgari, Italy.
