Written in response to the comment that her music was "too serious," "A Little Whimsy" is a deliberate departure from the compositional style Dorothy Rudd Moore displayed in masterpieces like From the Dark Tower. The lighthearted, jaunty opening idea is juxtaposed with (and rudely interrupts) a lyrical waltz theme, creating a humorous effect. With numerous articulations and pedal markings that require focused attention to detail, "A Little Whimsy" is more demanding than it appears.

This piece is suitable for advanced intermediate pianists.
