Composer's Note:
Mindsets is a suite for reed quintet where each of the three movements affects a different point of view for the ensemble. Masterminded presents the harmonic material for the suite, both as chords for the whole quintet and as melodic fragments that introduce each of its members. Singleminded features an extended solo by the alto saxophone accompanied by the remaining instruments in related pairs (oboe + bassoon and Bb clarinet + bass clarinet). Broadminded playfully trades a tune and counter-melody among the instruments.
