John Melby's String Quartet No. 4 is a one-movement quartet of approximately 16-17
minutes' duration. This work, completed in 2014, emphasizes the differing characters
of each of the four instruments and showcases the virtuosity of each
instrumentalist. Contrasting sections provide great variety of textures and moods;
the contrast between the opening and closing moments is particularly striking.
