Composer's Note:
Composed for and dedicated to the Lydian String Quartet, this brief pairing creates a diptych of similarity rather than contrast. The back-and-forth of two phrases in Ruminating To And Fro posits a quasi-lull which is continued (within an even narrower frame) in the homophonic Steadied For Balance. The two miniatures are certainly cut from the same cloth, aiming for a tranquil lyricism.
