Composer's Note:

A “sequel” or response to Fantasy Couple, this pairing is a gift for two friends who have happened upon a love relationship with one another. While “couple” COULD refer to a pianist’s two hands, or to intervals/two-note codes, these two blended selections are most assuredly and importantly romances. In Confidence emphasizes the undisclosed nature of the romance “examined” in this music—it exhibits a kind of monitored but intimate care, while Count The Ways establishes two alternating characters that “count” individual paths through a number of phrases before discovering a salubrious, if reflective, commingling of elements.
