Llíria Impressions for String Orchestra and Percussion

String Orchestra and 2 Percussion

Composer's Note

Llíria Impressions was comissioned by Edeta Arts, John Crozman, CEO, in recognition of Llíria, Spain being designated as a UNESCO City of Music.

Llíria Impressions was one of ten works I composed that premiered on July 6, 2024 for the Impressions of Llíria festival, culminating a week long series of concerts featuring percussion groups from around the world.

Numerous archeological sites dating back to Iberian, Arabian, and Roman times exist in Llíria. Llíria Impressions hints at musical forms, rhythms, harmonies, and traditional folk melodies from Llíria. Each composition also includes musical concepts from other cultures outside the province of Valencia, integrating the UNESCO concept of recognizing a small group of cities from around the world that have distinguished themselves as Cities of Music whereby music is historically interwoven and currently in the fabric of the community's culture.

The original performance was with plucked string orchestra.
