Langkawi: Mythology II
Langkawi: Mythology II
Violoncello Solo
Composer's Note:
The Islands of Langkawi are situated off the coast of the Malaysian peninsula. The first movement, Stones, tells of the islands splintering off the mainland. The forces moved the earth, boulder dashed against boulder, dramatically creating new terrains. Caves describes the grottos off the coast and their special resonance. The landscape is now full of vegetation and we’re visited by a monkey. Haunting echoes drift in the wind. As the voice becomes clearer, we see Mahsuri appear for the first time.
