Composer's Note:

Concentre [/kon'sÉ›ntÉ™/ v. to converge to a common center; to concentrate] was originally written for bassoon, as a vignette exploring the instrument's remarkably expressive and versatile characteristics. This is an arrangement of the bassoon version, to display the wealth of colors and character of the bass clarinet. As this music's energy shifts from a focused repeated note to a line accruing a high-energy expressivity, to a slowing arioso, the performer moves from the spirit of a "call" (think shofar) to a plaintive meditation. Concentre was written in 2016 for bassoonist Adrian Morejon; this arrangement for Chris Grymes.
