In the Shadows
In the Shadows
Flute, Tenor Saxophone, Cello, and Tabla
Composer's Note:
Like my 1990 piano solo “Echoes of a Shadow,” from which it derives, “In the Shadows” seeks beauty and solace amidst sadness. The principal theme, which begins both pieces, is doubled in fifths or twelfths, an idea I first explored in an earlier shadow piece, “Penumbra” from 1987. “In the Shadows” was written for my friends in Articulations, a quartet led by saxophonist Frank Mauceri, also including Carl Dimow on flutes, Brian Shankar Adler on tabla, and me on cello.
