If I Could Be Anything in the World
If I Could Be Anything in the World
Soprano, Piano, and Live Electronics
Composer's Note:
If I Could Be Anything in the World is a vocal setting of a text attributed to Mary Queen of Scots. The work is in three parts beginning with a quiet meditation based on fragments of the syllables followed by the song setting of the text arriving at a final coda that returns to the reflective nature of the opening meditation. This work involves an interactive Max application which listens to the soprano and piano and harmonizes, connects with and reacts to the musicians in real-time.
