Composer's Note:

Conundrum contains a background harmonic structure amplified by melodies that become increasing more agitated towards the middle of the piece and then return to their original character. The piece is symmetrical and palindromic. Long notes are stated in the woodwinds and brasses, and melodies are carried by the strings, piano, xylophone, and sometimes the woodwinds. There is a big climax at the midpoint of the piece. The piece was written in February, 2024.
The title expresses my conflicting thoughts in composing this piece. I originally believed that it would be impossible to put all these materials together into one work, but then I came up with solutions. I have strived to make all parts comfortable for the instruments. The listener is invited to make his or her own interpretation.
