The opera, Harmony, with music by Robert Carl and libretto by Russell Banks, was premiered at the Seagle Festival in August 2021.
The opera unfolds over one Adirondack night in 1908, on the eve of the betrothal of the composer Charles Ives to Harmony Twichell. But her godfather Mark Twain, the best friend of her father Joseph, is dismayed by the naive happiness of the couple and seeks to complicate the relationship. A romantic comedy of errors ensues on the way to reconciliation and lasting love.
