Composer's Note:
Blue on Black III is a slow transformation from ethereal calmness to chaotic chatter. The work explores various six-note sets that unfold throughout the piece. As the piece progresses, the harmonies become more complex and eventually each instrument begins to sound melodic fragments. While the transition from the beginning to the climax is smooth and gradual, the end of the work suddenly recalls the opening's simplicity.
