Taches lumineuses
Solo Flute
Composer's Note:
Taches lumineuses is a set of six "microludes" for solo flute inspired by an evocative expression marking in Olivier Messiaen's orchestral work Éclairs sur l’Au-Delà, translating to "points of light - a cluster of stars in a constellation." Written in the midst of an intensive study of Messiaen's work for my doctoral research, this piece is at once a personal response to Messiaen's methods of musical organization and a depiction of a variety of the celestial phenomena that often inspired his music as well. Taches lumineuses was commissioned by flutist Kelley Barnett and completed in January 2018.
