Rasikapriya

Rasikapriya

Alto Flute and Viola

Composer's Note:

Rasikapriya is the Sanskrit name of the last of the 72 mela ragas in South Indian music. There are over 2000 ragas in South Indian music- each derived from one of the 72 parent ragas. I've always been interested in the linear beauty of Indian music; rasikapriya is one of my favorite ragas with the scale C D# E F# G A# B C. I studied South Indian music in Chennai and have written works featuring the veena with string quartet and orchestra. Rasikapriya explores the textures of alto flute and viola in counterpoint to the melodic force of the raga's melody.
