Composer's Note:

In this response to Bach's D Major Invention, the first half of the piece uses all the notes of each of Bach's measures (including passing tones, etc.), scrambled up in a gradually accelerating flow. The second half is the original invention with decorations from the first half. Throughout, the piece plays with the metric ambiguities in Bach's original.Invention Extension is gratefully dedicated to Lorenzo Marasso."¨
