Five Poems of Georg Trakl
Five Poems of Georg Trakl
Baritone and Piano
Composer's Note:
Composed in 2011, these are settings of five of Trakl's fascinating, beautiful and melancholy poems, in a chromatic, tonal language that is contemporary, yet vaguely suggests Hugo Wolf, Mahler and early Berg. The songs were written for baritone Keith Kibler, who performed four of them as "Four Poems by Georg Trakl" in 2015. The score includes translations, for which the publisher granted permission.
Movements: 1. Nachts (At Night) 2. Rondel (Rondelet) 3. Melancholie (Melancholy) 4. Im roten Laubwerk voll Guitarren.. (Amid red foliage full of guitars..) 5. Sommer (Summer)
