Duet Quintet

Duet Quintet

Two Violins

Composer's Note:

Duet Quintet collects five lyrical pieces into a “travel set.” In 2015, while on a long-awaited leave from teaching, I traveled to New York, Petrified Forest National Park, and Chicago for various creative pursuits. These pieces represent passing thoughts as trains, planes, or landscapes passed through my experience. What was I reading? What did I think about? The last duet— A Day’s Work —was completed after I went back to teaching, but in a one-year visiting position that afforded a comparative freedom from entrenched duties. Hopefully the full set projects a sense of spontaneity.

To Sharan Leventhal and her Studio at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
