Composer's Note:
One summer day I was browsing in a bookstore outside Paris. Music piped into the shop caught my attention. It was an amalgam of several centuries of French folk musics, all reworked through an early 21st century prism. I thought it was lovely, and I thought that might be an interesting thing for me to try with American folk musics.
Shortly after I returned home, I headed out to Minneapolis to my brother's wedding. My brother was marrying a man he had been in love with for over thirty years. Changes in attitudes, and more specifically changes in laws, made it possible for them to finally codify their relationship. It was lovely to see their happiness.
Both of these things were on my mind over the ensuing months, and you/we seemed a natural result.
