Composer's Note:

"Candles" is a meditative piece for solo clarinet inspired by the Jewish tradition of lighting Sabbath candles shortly before sunset on friday evenings to commemorate the beginning of the Sabbath. It is dedicated to clarinetist Steven Klimowski, founder of the Vermont Contemporary Music Society.
